Xiaomi Has "No Plans" For New Android TV-Based Mi Box | Androidheadlines.com

IMHO, Xiaomi better rethink their plans of bringing phones to United States. Who in the U. S. would buy a Mi phone knowing their track record providing updates to Mibox TV?

I didn't see this posted yet. Looks like it really is the end of the road for Mi Box Android TV.

I mean, lets be honest, did we expect otherwise?

The reality is that everyone has abandoned Android TV except providers who want an easy box for an up-sell that they can brand to their liking.

This was posted in the comments of another thread in this subreddit, and you can see my (detailed) thoughts here:

Basically, that article is completely irrelevant and its title is wildly misleading, as is the lack of thoroughness in the discussion of what was on display at MWC.

At least they should unlock bootloader for us !

dontgetaddicted

Well, that blows.

I thought someone posted a picture of a MiBox running Oreo from MWC?

Neomeir

If that is the case then maybe the Oreo Mi Box is really an update to the current Mi Box a ton of us have.

arghness

Isn't that pretty much the same as nVidia? Okay, they did release a new version, but it was basically the same with a different size and remote.

No need to update the hardware, if they can do all that's required with the current version (although obviously it would be much preferred if they could keep security updates coming).

What a maroon!!!

Absolute click bait and fake news!!!

Who is his source, a janitor at the local Walmart store in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan?

MiBox 4 and 4C were not on display at MWC, in spite of his assertion.

Why would Xiaomi present the MiBox 4 line of boxes at an international exhibition when the products are exclusively tailored for the domestic Chinese market?

He did accidentally get one part of the story correct.... "Xiaomi has “no plans” for releasing a new Android TV-based Mi Box" That is absolutely correct. The existing MDZ-16-AB is entirely capable of running Oreo.

This guy must be paid by the word as he spouted a lot of meaningless jabber under the guise of being an informed source.

Wow-n-Flutter

Turns out they never had “old plans” for mibox and apparently it was just junky Chinese shit sold at Walmart all along...
