Android 7 Nougat update for Sony!

by iamthestigscousin

Can't believe it, they're finally giving us Android 7. Hopefully it doesn't make mine any worse, it was always slow, got much worse with 6. Hoping against hope for better from 7. Who wants to jump in first? 😁

Update: Installed via USB on my KD 43X8305C. It had always been slow and buggy, got worse with 6.0, but I have to say so far this is going well. Amazon is actually watchable (could never use it before, constant stuttering), and it seems more responsive. I did also start limiting background processes (as per a suggestion in this thread) around the same time, so that probably plays a part too. Overall, the update and the process limiting have vastly improved this TV. I'm amazed.

Colour me surprised the 2015 models are getting 7.0 I always thought it was a pipe dream, should be interesting to see how it will affect performance on them being a dual core with 1.5GB ram and running like a dog out of the box.

still cant see any info on the sony australia website but I have hope last time it took about 3-4 months after launching in the UK

Still sad with my China version of Sony Bravia. Nougat with google stuff removed, no google cast nor youtube.

Does one of these docs exist for Android 8.0?

Have an X900 series and not used to slow updates (Nexus/pixel user, this is my first smart TV)

I thought Sony pushed out Nougat late last year globally?

Lol I was checking out literally today and it showed summer 2018, I guess it's better late than never.

3 years wow

My XE85 updated itself to their Nougat build when it was unboxed and switched on last August. This is not an "I got it early" gloat by any stretch. It's taken a lot of tweaks to get it to the point where it's performance is anywhere near acceptable.

What about 2016 KD-75X8500D ?

Just installed now and did the tweaks /u/netflix-uk-1971 suggested, it seems snappy.

However...do we get the google assistant? I can't see it anywhere?

Just installed it on my KD 43X8305C. Seems OK, Amazon is a bit better (not so slow and juddery), not much else to notice at this point.

I did do the change suggested in this thread to restrict background applications.

kinda of a repost from another sub but i wanted to andriod tv folks advice as well... My current set up is an Apple 4k TV, the Bravia and a dennon receiver with arc support. For the last 8-10 months(since initial set up) everything has been fine. I use the ATV remote to control everything. Turning on the ATV woke up everything. Putting the ATV to sleep turns everything off. ATV has wired internet. TV has no network access, no cable, no other inputs connected other then ATV. Yesterday evening when we turned on the ATV the receiver didn't turn on. I tested all the hdmi tables and they all worked when I just connected the ATV to the tv. The arc port also worked. When you enter set up mode on the dennon it sends a signal to the TV so you can use it as a display as you go through the menus. It worked fine so it appears that there is still some ability to send information between the arc port on the tv and the dennon.

I suspect this is really an android tv issue because the other problem would be the constant pop ups that inform some service has unfortunately stopped. It's not the someone. It changes almost every time. I have seen about 30 or so different "Unfortunately, <insert service> has stopped." messages. It has made the tv unusable, even if I hook it up to use the atv and the tv speakers any popups stop us from watching whatever streaming app we had open on the atv and takes to the HOME section where I endless say ok to pop alerts.

Sony's only response was to reset the tv. That did nothing. Further guidance from them is to continue to reset the tv and turn it off for 1 minute. If anything the reset made the pop ups worse.

Since I want a 4k HDR tv it seems I am stuck at getting a smart tv which in turn seem so saddle me with this shitty andriod tv OS skin. Does sony use the same crappy andriod tv skin on all their smart tvs? or is there a better one?

and idea if updating to Nougat would help? this tv has never been updated or had internet access, i really don't want to update it only to find out it's more laggy then it currently is. This is my third tv in a year. It sucks that I am $6k in already and I can't get a TV that works with a receiver and one input device. i have already been through LG and Samsung.
