by nahcekimcm
  1. Whys the play store different from the tablet/phone version?

Im trying to install this app but it cant be found on mibox, but yet available on my tab. how do i get it?

  2. Whats the easiest/wireless way to install apks on mibox? like without computers or requiring connections?

  3. updates, do they really matter on androidtv? as i see mibox is still on android 6/mm, does that mean its EOL?

It's not going to work since it's not made for Android TV.

Best suggestion is load it on your phone and then cast it to your mibox TV.

Apps for Android TV and to appear in the Android TV store need to be built with Android TV libraries/play services. You can possibly side load it.

Wirelessly from a phone. No idea, from a laptop adb.

EOL...ehhh they say they are working on Nugat, but ya know... Android and all. I don't think they've updated the box at all since it went on sale, maybe once.

Install an alternative Aptoide Apps store .apk using the X-Plore file browser App (found in the Playstore) and a USB stick to save the .apk:

https://en.aptoide.com/

Then install regular Android Apps from that Aptoide Store. You may also then need a Rotation Locker App and mouse. Only to find some touchscreen Android Apps still will not work properly on Android TV.

The Android TV Sideload / Launcher App need to be installed as well to launch touchscreen Android Apps once they are installed.

Honestly you are not missing out on much without Android TV Nougat on the Mi Box. The only beta Nougat Firmware usable functionality on the Mi Box is the quick Apps task switcher / Killer.

Try sideloading apk but you will need to use a mouse since it's made for touch screen. Can try to use your remote as a mouse with mouse toggle app or download Android tv remote app to use with it since it has built in mouse.

Also, look into terrarium tv. Maybe they have the shows you watch.

  1. Android TV's Play Store app is curated to only show you apps that they can confirm will work with a remote control as input. Technically, Android TV is a separate platform that was forked from the regular touchscreen Android made for your phone/tablet. Most Android apps are made with a touchscreen in mind, so that's not going to work very well on your living room TV. However, there are many apps in the web version of the Play Store that work on Android TV and can be installed from a PC. That's my preferred way to browse for apps to install on my Android TV devices. If the app you want to install says it's incompatible, then you'll need to find the APK somewhere online and sideload it onto the device.
  2. there's probably a file explorer app that can transfer files back and forth that someone else will mention
  3. dunno if it's EOL, it's not supposed to be and people believe it isn't but it's also behind and other people believe it is... just look at it as a 2 year old smartphone: no one knows for sure when or if an update is coming for the Mi Box

It's super easy. In a web browser, sign into the play store at play.google.com using the same account you are using on your mi box. Try to install the app you are interested in. If it's compatible, the mi box will appear in the "Choose a device" list dropdown. Select the mi box and the install will begin automatically on the mix box. Not all apps will work using this functionality though.

If you wish to send files to your MiBox wirelessly from your phone, use ES File Explorer. Find the file on your phone, click Share -> Send by LAN. Your phone will scan for devices on the same Wi-Fi network as you running ES File Explorer and allow you to transfer the file wirelessly
