Isn't there supposed to be adds in the youtube app on the normal YouTube app on Android tv?

Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining about them being away, but neither my new Philips 55PUS7272 or my nvidia shield 2017 have shown me any adds in their lifetime. Phillips has been with me since I bought it from black Friday sale, but shield has been with me since the new 2017 pro unit got released.

I don't believe that it is something in my network settings, because apart from wlan settings they are pretty much In the factory settings. Also when I try out the normal YouTube app in my phone (using my wifi or mobile connection) those adds come through normally. And also if I use my old panasonic tx-l47et5y tv and it's youtube then I get adds as well.

Needless to say that youtube Red subscription is not available in my country, so that can't be the reason either.

yes, YouTube for Android TV has ads. I see them all the time on my Shield.

I started using Youtube Smart TV or whatever it's called. Looks similar but no ads.

I have never seen one. I didn't realize there were ads for YouTube for AndroidTV

Maybe YouTube doesn't have permission to show ads on TV in your country.

I think it depends on the video/channel. Some channels I never get ads and others I always get them.

I have youtube red free with Google Play music. Maybe you have red as well. I NEVER see commercials. My only complaint is I cant see the comments or doobleydoo on the TV.

if you have google music/ youtube red you don't see any ads otherwise they are likely blocked by dns/vpn or other service

Along with Google play music, ad free YouTube is part of YouTube Red subscription!
