No cast option from Youtube/Netflix

by Morkelon

Hi all I bought a new 55 inches 4k Android TV with HDMI 2.0 and Android 6.0 but I can't seem to cast from my phone's youtube or netflix into the TV. It seems my phone youtube/netflix doesn't see the TV as a device.

The strange part is that I have installed Plex in the TV and I can cast from the phone's Plex into the TV, and I also can cast from the Phone's youtube into the PS4 youtube. The only issue seems to happen between the TV and the phone Youtube/Netflix.

What should I do? Oh, my phone is Oneplus One.

Thank you in advance.

A couple things. Assuming you have a Sony Android TV....

First you need to go to settings and check for system updates. All Sony TV's with Android TV in US model year 2015 and newer should be on 7.0 now. So check for system updates and do the update if there is one.

Second go to Google play store on the TV, then go to my apps, and check app updates. Update any that say an update is available. You likely need to update your Google Cast app.

Let me know what the results are.

Is Plex the only app that casts to your TV? Have you tried casting YouTube or Netflix from a computer or another device?

This is usually caused by wifi /network issues. Do you have wifi isolation enabled or some strange setup that blocks mDNS between your phone/computer and TV?

When this happens I restart my Nexus Player. That seems to do the trick.

Try the Zeroconf Browser to see if the Cast endpoint is visible from your phone/tablet.
