Mi Box will no longer install to USB thumb drive

by AergiasChestnuts

I had a USB thumbdrive set up and formatted for the Mi box. I removed for a few minutes to try something, and now that I've plugged it back in, I can't install anything onto it. It recognizes is as storage from what I can tell, and I can open all the app that I previously installed. I can't however, install anything new. It just states that I don't have enough storage space. It's trying to install internally i'm assuming, the usb still has 49 gig left. Is there a way I can specify where to store new files?

IIRC, max size of USB drive for Amlogic S905X-H devices is 32GB.

Try to repartition drive into 2 with acceptable sizes. Perform backup first, naturally.

Good luck

You will find that on the MiBox the apps were never even getting installed on the USB drive in the first place. The feature just doesn't work on Android 6 even though it gives every indication that it does. It's like it shows space being taken up on the external drive but the same space is being taken up on the internal drive. This has been fixed on Android 7 but the MiBox is still crippled by the older version.

If I'm understanding this correctly, you made your thumbdrive your 'internal' storage & therefore cannot use the remaining internal empty storage any longer..?

Nothings broken/wrong, that's what it does when you do it that way.

First, try rebooting it with everything connected, that may correct it..?

If it doesn't you're likely going to have to reformat the stick & start again with it.

If you want to use the all the available internal storage of the Mi Box & your USB drive, you have to move everything on the USB back into the Mi Box & then reformat your USB & use it as external storage.

Thank's for the responses. The drive size wasn't an issue, like RavetcoFX said. When I initially set it up, everything worked great. I set it as internal storage, and it allowed me to add as many apps as I wanted. No issues. The other day though, I wanted to sideload something, so I disconneced the usb, and plugged in a new one with the app to be sideloaded. After installing the app on to the mibox, i plugged the old usb back in. It didn't ask me how to use it. I am able to play and access everything that I previously installed on to it. However, when I try to install anything new, it seems to be trying to install on the mibox instead, because it says not enough space. So, like tb21666 says, I think I'll just have to reformat, and maybe use some kind of hub, so it's never disconnected again.
