Mibox version of Sling / Vue

by SirPotz

I've had my mibox for about a year. I originally had exchanged it a few times because of minor streaming issues on Vue and Sling. Programming on Vue would stammer sometimes (stop and go) and Sling would buffer or have a weird frame rate at times. I ended up just settling thinking it was an issue with the service providers. On a whim last week, I picked up a cheap 29.00 Roku and installed Sling. The stream quality has been phenomenal. Far superior than the mibox in my opinion. So now I use the Roku to stream Sling or Vue and the mibox for Freeflix and Terrarium, etc.. Anyone else have had this experience with mibox?

Nope. My Mi Box has been rock solid since June 2017 with PlayStation Vue.

I use Vue with my Mi Box and it runs smoothly. The guide did stammer, but the recent Vue App update fixed it.

I actually did the reverse. Used Roku fir a few months and bought a Nice Box. I could never go back to Roku.

I had vue issues before on both my Mi Box's but it was a vue issue, not a Mi Box issue. Everyone was having issues at the same time. Maybe this was your problem back then and instead of doing a little research you quickly blamed the Mi Box because you were lazy.

Now vue works great. No issues with it. I also have both my box's connected via Ethernet so the connection is rock solid. WiFi can be flaky for any reason.

I had minor issues with the Mi Box out of the gate, most noticeably the Casting features.

However, a cheap usb ethernet adapter fixed all those issues. Vue used to stammer, no issues any longer. I also at a later time upgraded to a mesh wifi network from the basic 2-in-1 combo my ISP provided, and that also has made a huge difference with wifi only devices.

I feel like there's a HUGE impact as it relates to wifi signals, what sort of material your house is made of, interference from outside networks, etc. on wifi streaming quality. As a result, there are often a lot of "this device sucks and doesn't work with this app" complaints that go undiagnosed threads, across the board (Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, etc.)

Except Fire sticks. Those things aren't worth the plastic they're made of.

I had problems with video playback stuttering and the menu constantly popping up on youtube originally. A factory reset fixed all my issues. My research led me to find that it was almost nessesary on all new miboxes Did you try that?

Even the Sling thumbnail on the mibox is very pixelated. https://i.imgur.com/bZVd3Km.jpg

Found this info on another site:

"Its basically the firmware n security updates, that xiaomi dnt give on mi box frequently like others. They gave a youtube error solving firmware yesterday after months of wait. And its around 2 years still didnt received any nougat update or any bug fixes updates."

I had an extended warranty so on a whim I went to Walmart last night and exchanged the mibox for a new one. The new one has a later build date then my old one which I bought about a year ago. This version seems to operate better but I'm pretty anal with the clarity and stream quality. One thing I noticed streaming Sling on the Mibox is that it takes about 10 seconds for the stream to perfect itself. Starts off kinda grainy and with a low resolution. I tuned to a news channel with a news ticker at the bottom. It still stammers a bit but much improved over my last mibox. Roku version of the same channel still has a more precise stream.
