We don't recommend buying Android boxes because this subreddit is all about the Android TV OS which is Google's official OS for the living room. A touchscreen OS doesn't make sense on an HDTV.

But to address your concern about software being out of date, yes that is one of the worst things about random Chinese junk boxes. Once they have your money for the hardware, what do they care? What can you do? They're not even real companies with a reputation to uphold.
