march 22 2018 we are here. i don't regret my purchase at all and i'm not even sure the update to 7 or even 8 will really change anything other than the fact they said i would get something and i still haven't gotten it. my only complaint about the mibox is storage related. i'd like to be able to install more apps on it without juggling what's on it. (although a good bit of the apps on it i barely use).

The hardware is good and I never had a problem with the Mi Box.

That said, I don't trust Xiaomi and if Google releases a properly priced box, I'd switch when needed. If somehow hell freezes over and Kodi goes on to Apple, I'd buy that in a second. I mean Google also barely supports AndroidTV.

I know people bitch about it a lot, but I really couldn't care less. I'm completely happy with the Marshmallow interface and how the box performs. I have no issues at all with it and it works great for what I do with it (75% Plex, 15% YouTube, 10% Sling).

I still hope we get updated to Oreo, someday...

As for the box limitations, it could have more internal storage and gigabit Ethernet.

Reason why i switched from nougat : I use MI box for PLEX and KODI. It simply couldnt play any DTS-HD / ATMOS files properly because of the "disabled cores" i guess? There is problem also with WIFI since the same DTS- HDfile through usb played smoother ( I thought problem was with underpowered router and bought xiaomi R3P router, problem persisted ) Youtube stuck on older versions on latest nougat. Since it crashes with latest versions. HDCP issue. I cant connect it properly with my AV receiver. MM worked well.  Scrolling fast freezes UI and requires manual reboot Abandoned Updates by Xiaomi.

USB 3.0 hub (I know it's only 2.0, using 3.0 will give you max 2.0 transfer speeds) & 128GB 3.0 thumbdrive as internal storage does the trick for my S/O, gives her extra ports for external HDD's & the Rii MX6 dongle, as well.

Netflix hasn't worked on my MiBox in over 18 months.

It's the only real issue I have with the damn thing, but it leaves me almost completely avoiding Netflix all together.

Naturally, Netflix said it was an issue on Xiaomi's end.

I haven't had nearly the amount of issues other people have had but if I could do it again I would've just bought a Shield instead.

This is why I tell people you get what you pay for when they ask for cheap android boxes.
