Mounting network share on TV?

by an303042

Is it possible to mount a network share on the TV and use it as storage?

I'm looking to run retroarch (or some other emulator) and want to access roms that are on the network.

I know this is possible on nvidia's shield, but i have a sony bravia - any chance anyone know how to do it there?

Hi, I'm trying to get your exact same thing - a shared folder in my NAS containing all the ROMs, which is mounted into my Android TV file system so that I could browse it from Retroarch and eventually set it as ROMs directory.

To achieve this we need:

  • root (required for mounting)
  • an app called 'Mount Manager' which is no longer available in Play Store but I have the .apk
  • the CIFS kernel module for our TV, which needs to be loaded into the kernel from Mount Manager

I didn't root my TV (yet) and I don't know where to fetch the kernel module so I'm actually stuck.

This is the only way that I believe could work, please keep me updated if you manage to get it or if you find another way

Can you use an Android Samba client?

I don't know what the emulator software that you're thinking of using supports but I can say that I have no problem accessing the contents of my NAS box with SSH in Kodi Krypton file manager running on my Sony Bravia Android TV.

I suspect what you're asking will depend on what "file manager" features retroarch / others enable you to do.
