Is there a way to cast to youtube APP and not google cast?

I tried to go back a couple second and realized it casted to google cast and not the youtube app. I would much rather have youtube videos casted onto the youtube app so I can control with the remote.

No solution, but there is a work around.

Go to YouTube App and link with TV code.

  1. Link once and done.
  2. Have to manually open YouTube App to cast.
  3. Cast to "Youtube TV".

Button Mapper allows you to map unused button (Netflix / Google Play) on remote to open YouTube app or other apps for easier access.

Yeah this just seems like a horrible omission on Android TV. They can redesign the YouTube interface every 6 months but won't do anything to let you control playback via a remote, Android is supposed to be the system of choice, let you use it the way you want but this really annoys me about casting.

I'm not a fan of casting from a second device either. It's just a poor user experience compared to devices like the Shield or the Apple 4KTV. The best way to improve the Youtube casting experience is to use the Watch Later Playlist Play All button and a laptop with a Chrome browser to control it. I can use my TV remote to play/pause and next/previous playlist video, but not FF or rewind on the remote. Best option is using the chrome browser while it's playing on the TV.

Unfortunately this is not currently possible, but may be in the future if they update Android TV to support this.

Not as convenient, but if they use the same account generally what I do is save videos to the watch later section from whatever other device then use the remote to go there on the TV

It's possible, go to YouTube app, click settings, you'll see link with tv code:

Link that tv code to your YouTube app on phone... So for this casting to work you need to open YouTube app on TV manually, then the casting works from then :). Here casting works even when you're not connected to same wifi

you want DIAL/tv pairing codes instead of cast.
