Menu lag on Sony Bravia Android tv

by _Aj_

I've got a 2015 Sony with Android TV, it is on most recent firmware. I've found the menu has been getting laggy, ie, low frame rate when flicking up and down between apps, and also in apps like browsing inside Spotify and YouTube. Is this related to anything? Like too many apps or something?

On that note, can I delete apps like Stan, Amazon video, sbs on demand, etc that clutter my featured apps bar? I tried to force close "Sony tray" or whatever it's called, and turned notifications off, but it didn't do a thing.
I don't mind the top "what's on" bar but there's so many apps I just don't use and I really want to clean it up.

Ive had a search and a sub browse but haven't found much help yet, any pointers would be awesome. Cheers!

Only thing I've really found that helps this out is to set the background process limit in the debug options. It usually makes a pretty big difference for me (I have a 2015 Sony too).

see instructions here

But unfortunately the setting isn't persistent (it resets itself after every reboot).

Interestingly, I too have an older X83 but I just got the update to Nougat and it is definitely faster than it was!

I've tried everything on mine.

For some reason its significantly smoother if I disconnect it from the internet.

So I've got an older apple tv on mine, just holding out hoping there is a update to the shield or maybe a pixel player to come.

Its pretty disgusting that Sony sends TVs out in this condition but I must say my lg isn't much better.

Start deleting apps you never use. Also turning off animations

I disable some network mirror services and it helped

Turn off extra cards on the home menu. It makes a massive difference to the menu speed. It's in settings, home.

I turned off all of the cards except for Watch TV and it is lightning fast.

I have a 2015 Sony TV and the only way I have managed to get it to run smoother is to... -limit the background processes to anything below 3, -Set the android interface resolution to 1600x900 through adb (anything lower causes issues with the guide app). It does not affect video resolution played on YouTube or through HDMI it is just the interface resolution, -Disabling notifications on all but useful apps like YouTube and twitch, -Disabling the Sony shelf (on my TV it makes a huge difference as it removes featured apps) -Not having any games (you will need to disable the built in gameloft game) -Not sure if this even does much but I force GPU Rendering
