Is MiBox 3 (Android TV) still worth it?

by panagiac

Hello to everybody!

I'm currently using a chinese Android Box, with LibreElec flashed on it. It's working kinda ok, but as the time passes I'm starting to get tired of lags, no Netflix, no streaming services at all etc.

I could probably get a Mi Box for around 70€. So as the title says: Is it worth now, in 2018? Even with the "old" Android 6.0?

How is Netflix? Does PrimeVideo works? Do you know about some new version of the box, in the near future, to wait?

Thank you in advance guys.

Sponplat

Yes, still worth it since the only ATV alternative is the shield.

Yeah, have it for almost a year now and still working perfectly. Perfect for me but I do only use it on a 1080p TV.

Yes it is worth it. If you want AndroidTV and only interested in streaming than it is the best value and works great.

I use Netflix, Vue, Kodi, Live Channels, twitch, etc and they all work perfectly.

Prime is supposedly coming out for AndroidTV, but appears to be waiting for nVidia exclusivity to expire (it's on GooglePlay now, but can't be downloaded and installed yet.

There are no plans on a new Mi Box. They released a Chinese version recently (Mi Box 4) but it doesn't use AndroidTV OS.

They showed Mi Box 3 (the one you're looking at) with Oreo, but Mi Box hasn't fulfilled their promise of Nougat, so it's up in the air.

Yes, It's still worth it, I still use it as my daily driver, and I can even watch youtube videos without a browser! Take that Amazon Fire TV 2016!

I just can't bring myself to fork over the money for a shield. I wish Google would release a crazy good media player some day. I'd buy 4 of them just to spite Amazon.

Also, does the remote really not have a pause button. I wanted to get this and now hearing I can't pause it with one click really puts me off.

Thank you guys for you answers! You are awesome!

So now the main conceirn I have, is the auto refresh-rate feature which is missing. Using a lot of Kodi, with IPTV providers, it is quite common to find video at 50/60 or 24hz. It'd very very annoying to have to change it manually.

Any thoughs?? Do you think it'd be fixed soon?

  • for 1080p its ok
  • for netflix its ok as long as it works in your setup , though 5.1 for me is flakey
  • Prime needs sideloading but can be cranky
  • other apps hit and miss
  • Stay on MM its relatively stable compared to the betas

In short, it's the best cheap option currently (no new versions on the cards as far as i know) if you don't want to go the Amazon route

Yes still worth it. It's the perfect device to turn a dumb TV into a smart TV. YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, plex, iptv, all the streaming services, plus 3rd party apks... Amazon, kodi, terrarium, etc.

I own both the shield and mi box, and I don't notice much difference in performance. If you want to play games and emulators pay up for the shield

No. Too much issues. Constant stuttering and crashes. Google these words and you'll see.

I can't afford the shield and I regret I bought this POS.
