4K Newbie - Am I doing this right?

by Atlasprime

Hi all,

Sorry for my ignorance in advance. I picked up a vizio m65e0, nakamichi 7.1 sound bar, and nvidia shield. I have hdmi connected via the ARC port from soundbar to tv. Shield is connected to the sound bar. This works but something i noticed is the system / menu sounds when navigating shield dont play unless i navigate aggresively. Anything that plays continuous sound seems ok so far. Is this the ideal setup? Should i connect the shield to the tv instead?

Mine does the same, doesn't make noises for the first couple clicks. I'm also using ARC but didn't think that was that cause.

I would do HDMI from the Shield directly to the tv. Then soundbar to tv via optical.

So outside of the menu gui clicks not being audible i think all is working well. 4k hdr is playing and i finally got plex for kodi all configured to play all my surround sound audio formats. Just need to update the firmware later for dd+ and truehd support. I think the menu sound has something to do with how the soundbar works. I noticed the clicks work in kodi due to a setting where inaudible noise is sent to the system to keep audio active. I dont see the same setting for the Shield which isnt the biggest deal in the end.

Thank you all for the feedback!

Believe I found a new problem. Woke up this morning. Turned the tv on via the TV's remote. The Shield input on HDMI 3 of the soundbar kept superseding my other device. I also found I could no longer control the volume using the tv remote. Was working perfectly fine before I went to bed. Guessing I have to re setup everything.
