Upgrade to Nvidia Shield or Mi Box?

I currently have a MINIX NEO X8-H that has recently become pretty slow and I'm looking for an upgrade. From my research I understand that the MINIX is running an Android OS while the Shield Pro and Mi Box is running Android TV. I just want to make sure that everything I can run on my MINIX can run on either the Shield or Mi Box.

The things I use my MINIX for

  • Watching anime streams use Google Chrome browser
  • Amazon Prime Video
  • Watching local mpv/mp4 files (10bit) MINIX has issues running it smoothly
  • Watching Youtube
  • Using Kodi 1channel plugins

Given what I do what is the best box to upgrade to?

Just cave and get the Shield. The Mi Box is barely an upgrade. The Shield is an investment.

Get the SHIELD, PLEX will handle your local files, there's a Prime app, and I'm pretty sure there's a couple of good anime apps for AndroidTV also.

The only thing missing on Mi Box is Amazon Prime. Supposedly that is coming.

For everything else you want, Mi Box works great. If you just want to stream, the Mi Box is the best option due to being a lot cheaper of a price. If you need power for more than streaming than Shield would be needed.

If the Shield is an option, buy the Shield. It's the best streaming box ever made and it has held that title for 3 years. No one has come close to it.

One of my main concerns is being able to stream from a website (e.g. https://otakustream.tv/ ). I know I can just use chromecast and cast a tab on my laptop to the Shield but I rather have everything working on the Shield as a standalone unit. Does the Shield have a web browser that I can use or is it difficult to browse the web using the Shield. I currently use a air mouse with my MINIX.

You'll be okay with the MiBox but you'll like the Shield TV better.

Shield. Yes to all. Chrome browser is okay but i really like Puffin Tv Browser. I love my mi box too just not as blazing fast.

Shield, though that's basically the only choice.

Prime is on The Shield, The Fire TV (Android), and the Xbox One (Of note, you may want to consider an Xbox one, it does have a lot of what you want for nearly the same price as a Shield. )

The shield is definitely a winner! I have both the mibox and the shield and they both work well. if you just need it from streaming and you dont need 4K or HDR mi box should suffice. you would likely need a mouse or a third party remote in order to use a browser. i recommend using Terrarium TV or Stremio instead!
