Traveling with Mi Box. How to log into Wi-Fi that needs an acceptance login?

by Bodycount9

I'm traveling this week and I took my Mi Box with me to plug into hotel tv's. Found out last night at a holiday inn express that their Wi-Fi system I have to accept a login page in order to get on the Wi-Fi. Do I need to install a browser in order to get this going? And do I have to sideload one because I haven't seen one on the store.

Or is there an easier way to do this?

Assuming your laptop is Windows 10, there is a built in hotspot generator

You can use that and link your Mi box to that

I do that with my Chromecast when I travel

I really don't have a lot of insight about the login screen, but I know that if you perform a voice search from the main screen with the phrase "launch chrome" it will prompt you to install Google chrome from the Play store if not installed, and will launch it anytime after.

Since it isn't really compatible with the MiRemote, it won't make a launcher banner for the home screen (there are 3rd party apps that do this) you may want to use a wireless mouse with a USB dongle. I actually use a mini keyboard mouse combo, but if you have a mouse that you use for your laptop, that would work.

I hope this helps.

Log in with your lappy and accept the webpage authentication. Write down the IP address and maybe the nic MAC address. Turn on your mi box. Go to network settings and set your static ip to the address you wrote down. If you see a mac setting, spoof your mac as well. Profit!! Make sure your take your lappy off the network.

I see two ways out of this apart from what Warlordblak suggested.

  1. Install a web browser from play store.

  2. Install full android chrome and purchase the mouse toggle app for android tv (it's not expensive).

I will probably get down voted for this, but when I travel, I carry a fire stick for streaming. Amazon built this function into its software and it never failed me and is really easy to do. For my needs, Netflix, SlingTV, Kodi, it works.
