hi new to the sub! decided to install some apps on my smart TV (specifically twitch) but it doesnt have a google play store and the default store is absolute trash. its has an android 4.4.2 tried to intalls some apk but it says it need google play store services. Can i do something or is this a lost cause?

Google play services/play store is limited to specific devices. You need to check with the TV maker for a resolution to your issues.
OTOH, an app store like Aptoide (the TV version) may avail for comparable apps that are not dependent on Google play services.
Dont expect you will get much meaningful help in this reddit. Skyworth is known to produce some sets that border on official AndroidTV capability, which is the focus for this forum.
It appears you have a model that is squarely in the category of generic android, where we cannot fathom your problems.
