Advanced settings kodi on mi box 3

by neulon

Hello,

I switched recently from a Raspberry Pi 3 to a Xiaomi mi box 3. Generally feeling it's good in terms of performance however in HD movies with not really high but rate (8k or less) 1080p I face lag and video desync issues, I would say doesn't really seems like buffering... On raspberry I was able play them smoothly and no issues.

Should I do some adjustments on the advanced settings file as I did on the raspi? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Try with SPMC it's on the play store, it's an Android optimized build. If the file it's on a network device connect the mibox via ethernet with a usb adadapter to reduce buffering.

Check your WiFi/internet speeds on the MiBox depending on source.

Make sure your Mi Box has the latest updates for best software and hardware optimisation.

Try it via a USB drive to see if that improves the situation.

Try updating Kodi to the Leia (v18) Alpha to make use of the latest codec optimisations.

You are not going to get ultra-smooth video playback on the Mi Box like you would on a RPi because it has no auto refresh switching to switch your TV to the correct refresh rate to match the frame rates of video content you play.

This then also puts your TV into it's 24p movie or cinema mode for silky smooth video playback.

You can do it manually in Android settings on the Mi Box and to try and match frame rates, but long term this is a PITA for varied video content. Use the Mi Box for non movie player Apps only.

There are far better devices for demanding audio and smooth video playback usage, especially if you are using Kodi. A good example is the AMLogic S912 devices running LibreELEC Kodi Krypton.

Use VLC Player for whatever you can, in my experience it is better optimized than Kodi default player. I am trying to make it default player using playercorefactory.xml

Also, try to experiment with switching H/W acceleration off.

Try Settings>video>HD scalers set to 40%

QuadOut

Not sure but it let stream 4K.
