MiBox not responding

by azoicwight

Hi,

I've had the MiBox for a year and half. Today it stopped responding. It still starts when I plug it in and then the recommendations populate. But it does not respond to the remote. Even tried it with the Android tv app and it does not even detect an Android tv on wifi or Bluetooth. I updated the MiBox yesterday but it worked till I put it in standby at the end of the day.

Anyone has any suggestions on troubleshooting this? So far all I could do was unplug power and HDMI cable for couple minutes before reconnecting.

Thanks.

Edit: appreciate all the responses. Later yesterday (after a power blip for 30 minutes), the android tv app detects it now. It still does not respond to the remote. Tried holding down the back and voice button to re-sync. prolly got that wrong. But at least it is working now, just with the app. Did nothing special on my part, but oh well.

Have the same problem, it just started on mine about a week ago, probably an update causing it. I uninstalled the Vudu app, and it has been better in the past 24 hours, but I am not 100% sure that is the cause...any other Mi Box redditors with this issue?

Remove the power, re-insert the power then immediately hold down:

  • The button in the middle of the directional pad (the OK/Enter button)
  • The back button

Until you see the bootloader menu. In that menu, select 'Wipe Cache Partition', follow the prompts, and then select 'reboot system now'.

If it's still playing up after that, try 'Wipe data/Factory rest' from that same menu, but be aware you will need to reinstall and reconfigure all of your apps, as well as plug in your Android TV settings again.

You may also try factory resetting the box while you are at it, I know it requires you to use the remote but worth a try !

You said you updated it. Was it an official update you got late through OTA? Or did you update it yourself with the beta?

Mine is progressively getting shoddy. Could be the patch update recently or perhaps an app(mobdro and terrarium most likely in my case). I have to reboot roughly 4-6 times a day depending on usage. REALLY kicking myself for not going with the Shield TV at this point. The only advantage mibox has over my old Nexus player ata this point is the ability to correctly read external storage. Even that has to be unplugged and plugged back in to function properly on occasion.

I'm going to go with the obvious answer here. Have you changed your remote batteries and resynced the remote? Hold down the home and back button at the same time.
