Questions about Games streaming on the Nvidia Shield TV

by kingstyle1995

I am currently looking to upgrade from a Mibox 4K to the Shield TV. But it is quite an investment ($250 in my country) so I have some questions. I mostly use the Mibox for gamestream to my TV in the living room with moonlight from my PC. The Mibox do alright with about 40ms delay. However, it cannot process mouse input due to no root, which I have to connect the mouse through VirtualHere and it has intense lag. So my questions are:

  • Will Gamestream with the Shield through wired gigabit network on both end has low mouse input lag? For mouse games like Dota 2, CS:GO, Diablo 3, etc.?

  • What are the disadvantages of the LOS rom on the Shield compare to the to native Android TV?

Edit: I also have an Xbox One S controller, can I connect it along with the Shield controller to the Shield TV and have 2 players game set up?

I am on Ethernet and running the same set up through a Nexus Player. That latency seems high: I run about 10-15ms.

Does the miBox have a hardware encoder? If not, the Shield will probably help, but is overkill for what you’re doing.

Can't speak to the mouse input but as for the Xbox controller. I think only the windows version has Bluetooth. Could be mistaken on this.

Using the shield controller along with another non shield controller is usually not great. It asigns both controllers to player 1 unless you completely disable the shield controller in GFE.

You play a lot of steam games, why not a steam link?

I can't imagine how you play dota2 with an added lag of 40ms over the game ping itself. I start getting annoyed even when the ping is over 50ms

Less leg option.. search Amazon - HDMI 2.0 25 foot 50 foot depending on the length you need and also a USB extension hub.

For me it was about $30-40 us

I ran a 50 foot HDMi 2 .0 cable from my basement to my TV in the living room yes a little over kill but it works just fine oh also I used a25 foot usb extension cable with hub for connecting Bluetooth or usb adapter .

Also I purchased a steam link .

I also have an Nvidia shield tv it's a great option but expensive $199.99us .
