The future of Android TV is less hardware, more YouTube TV

Somebody tell the author about Live Channels.

Obviously he has never been exposed to official AndroidTV!!!

It is totally the opposite. YouTube TV is just some meaningless regional feature and it's never going to be actually important for the platform. On the other hand there's so much more hardware being released worldwide. Many released by cable companies, others aren't even certified by Google and doesn't support Chromecast, but are creating the demand for apps and services.

I just don't see the logic in paying a premium for ANY ad ridden content..?

Huh, where does the author of this post live. Broadcast TV is dying and VoD is eating it alive. Investing into passing business models is dumb.

We tried out YouTube TV, absolutely hated it. Not because the app was poor, no the app was great and well polished. It was traditional live TV that we hated. Shows designed to keep you tuned in and stretching some big yet ultimately underwhelming reveal, just garbage filler television and sports as far as your eyes can see. No thanks, I'll take my targeted VOD setup, and watch exactly what I want to watch, when I want to watch it.

And what about outside the USA where YouTube TV doesn't exist

I think YouTube TV was working on integrating live channels OTA TV CHANNELS into YTV however no I think they are stuck with the fact that there is multiple OTA channel owners who are making it difficult .

Anyone using TV Oreo yet?

The Trend of using Tv with the subscription is going down and it will be continued in the future in large numbers, that's why I'm waiting for the right one which is [coming soon] ( https://www.solaborate.com/h2 ), it doesn't need a subscription, you only need wireless, you can add any Android app you want, beside YouTube for your Tv.
