I have bought a new 4K TV without HDR (VU TV - Stupid, I know). Now, is there anyway to play HDR content on it (using Kodi or other media players) without the colors being faded or washed out?

Yes a AMLogic S905X or S912 box running LibreELEC Kodi Krypton or Leia:

These LE devices have OS and Kodi support from auto colorspace switching/conversion. They also have auto resolution switching. A far better setup vs anything Android.
Avoid the NVIDIA Shield for HDR > SDR conversion. It's Nougat OS has No auto colorspace switching/conversion.
High bitrate 4K HDR playback really needs a Gigabit LAN (1000M) equipped device as well, unless you direct connect a USB Hard Drive.
Biggus didn't understand the question I guess.
NO, you cannot play HDR content on that VU because HDR is a combination of hardware+software requirement and VU lacks both.
HDR is the sole reason I didn't go for this TV. You really made a mistake my friend.
