I have no issues with plex. 1080p, 37gb, bitrate 20100kbps, audio bitrate 1563kbps, audio codec AC3.

This is over 1g ethernet. If you are running over wireless its possible that the bitrate is higher than your bandwidth.

You can try Plex, which can transcode the video to be playable.
