Good Android TV box under $80?

by suarezian

I have around $80 in my Gearbest wallet, so I'm looking to buy an Android TV box from there. At the moment, I'll only be streaming 1080p content. I've shortlisted the Mi TV box. Or is there any better ones at this price point? And please only suggest me products that are available on Gearbest and under $80. Should also be able to mirror my phone's display.

Your choices are basically the Mi Box or the Nvidia Shield, which is more expensive. The Mi Box is the only OFFICIAL Android TV device that I know of for that price point. Anything else is probably garbage, running an older version of Android for phones, not the Android TV platform.

There may be a Google product coming out soon. Google I/O is in 2 weeks. I would not be surprised to see it announced there. My recommendation is to wait 2.5 weeks before making a purchase.

Sorry, but you're in the wrong sub; this one is for official Android TV devices which are listed on the sidebar. You can't get any of those on gearbest.

The Nougat ATV - MECOOL M8S Pro L with Voice remote control (Google Assist) will nearly do what you want. It will be faster and more flexible vs a Marshmallow - Mi Box and better for everything except Chromecasting and 4K Netflix.

You might be able to get away with using an App like this for mirroring:

The S905W is not a good buy - slow as anything.

This is a good demonstration of what you can do with Google Assist Voice Control:

Good and under $80 do not go together.

For a god box you need decent GPU/CPU and enough RAM which increases the price.

Else you may run into problems with slow ui, 4k HDR video hardware encoding etc.
