Your VPN service will likely have an Android APK you can sideload, failing that you can do it manually with OpenVPN or directly through your router (if supported).

Subscribe to Netflix US would be the best and easiest workaround.
Really, what error code do you get? And side note, is there a big difference between content of the two? I heard Canada's Netflix sucks, is UK better than US?
