Unless you have a high-end audio system and you have bunch of content in TrueHD / Master Audio / DTS, there's no real reason to get a Shield. The Bravia UI is a bit slower, but it's more than servicable for watching stuff on Kodi, Netflix, Amazon and others.
Small note however: due to issues with resolution switching, refresh rate and colour spaces, videos from Netflix, Hulu and practically anything that's not Kodi will look better on the Sony that on the Shield connected to it.
My two cent's on the matter: any advantages over a Shield can and will likely be addressed with a software update. But I hear software updates for TVs are few and far between.
Unless you're thinking of nvidia shield, forget about it. The shield is basically the same thing but a lot more powerful. It does come with downsides vs the built in OS though. For Netflix and similar streaming services, stay with the TV OS. External ATV boxes do not support auto color space switching and the built in scaler of the TV is much superior to that of the shield.
