Mecool M8S Pro W initial thoughts

by shadywhere

Yesterday my m8s pro W came in the mail. It's an AmLogic box running real Android TV. I finally finished setting it up and have some thoughts.

The Shield TV was in our room before and got relegated to the main TV as the kids game on it often. We used three apps primarily:

1) Netflix 2) Xfinity Stream (modded from xda-developers) 3) MX Player

No issues with any of them. However, I found that there is no Bluetooth, so the wireless Trackpad I used for the mouse did not work. But I plugged in a mouse, so that was that.

It's pretty gutless and the remote has a bit of a delay for all functions. If you use the voice remote, it will cut off the first second or so of what you say. Also you have to press the voice button to make it active, so aside from Assistant, I haven't been able to use it for anything.

I found it for thirty bucks for the 2/16GB version with voice remote. It's totally worth it, but it is slow compared to the Shield TV.

Can you check at what resolution Netflix is playing? I think there's some test videos within the app that reveal this information.

Does it support a Chromecast?

Everything is slow compared to the shield especially when you pay $30 for it.
