Mi box Oreo update!?!

by MrBunqle

Linking the thread. I'm waiting for it to be pushed, supposedly in a few days...

https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-stick--console-computers/amlogic/mi-box-3-mdz-16-ab-oreo-t3784019

Diving down the links in the XDA thread, at first blush it's a security patch (April 1, 2018) but the system version appears to be 8.0.0? Diving down a bit further, the file size is just 1.77mb? Not sure what the hell this is now.

Good luck to those brave souls that take the plunge.

So got the update.

Took like a minute to install after downloading.

After installing the remote stopped working. Had to use a USB mouse to unpair and repair it.

YouTube is working for me now. Was broken on the last build for me.

Android version is 8.0.0, April 2018 security patch. Previously it was April 2017 security patch.

Edit:

Remote microphone is working fine after repairing again. Google Assistant works fine, but there is no always on listening.

Netflix 4k video is sometimes desyncing audio and video.

Plex is having issues with audio, most likely an issue with he-aac audio.

Kodi can perfectly play the files Plex is having issues with. So I assume its a Plex issue.

So I have no issues left.

Edit 2: Kodi is now having issues with audio as well. Not sure what the issue is. Rebooting doesn't help. Files that were working hours ago suddenly stopped working.

Is this real life?

It's not the OTA , if you open the file it's just two images , that's why it's just 2Mb in size

Today is quite strange. Who would have thought the Mi Box would have Oreo before the Shield?

If Shield doesnt get auto colorspace switching after Oreo, I give up and am going with Apple TV 4K. I like my Shield though, if only for PS4 Remote Play and the tiny chance I can hack it into a Nintendo Switch now that they have access to root level of the switch.

Having read the whole thread, and please correct me if I'm wrong, it appears that every poster here talking about receiving the Oreo update has been in the MiBox beta update program. And not a single one outside of the beta program, at least, not yet.

When someone gets Oreo on a non-beta program MiBox, that's when I'll start paying closer attention.

watchyirc

Pretty sure I bet someone here it would never get an update or I’d suck their dick I’m a straight male but a bet is a bet. Fess up if you want it.

GldRush98

Wait what? They're skipping N and going right to O?

rauldzmartin

What about people in nougat betas? Will be just a OTA?

PalebloodSky

I'd lose my shit if this is true, but no way is the file size 1.77mb, 1.77gb would be more like it. Suddenly the Mi Box would become cooler than the Shield TV.

I'd also do a full wipe after installing and start over. An update this big deserves it. Even though I now have my Mi Box connected to a Roku 4K TV (43S515) I'd love it like it was new. Roku doesn't have a lot of of the more interesting apps like Spotify, Kodi, VLC, RetroArch...

What is Nvidia doing

Has anyone tested if this can handle a USB tv tuner?

GangySVK

Update downloaded onto 2 mi boxes (check link), bought during past month and without any beta participation program. I am situated in central europe. So far it seems to be running fine, tho people are complaining about bugged external drives, so dont update yet if youre using one (I have not tested that).

Will this fix issue of Netflix not working ? HDCP issue?

Does Youtube TV work for this device on Oreo? Is Youtube TV available in the playstore? on the Mi box Oreo?

pjgowtham

Looks like dragnu5 has a prototype device. The remote issues wont be there on update rollout for mainstream devices.

How to open apps automatically without having to tap open ? I don't get it Everytime I click a Netflix episode or try to open an app it give this little menu ... Is there a way to avoid it?

Hi

Netflix question for the beta testers.

I have my Mi box connected to an AVR and from there, to the main screen.

Unfortunately i suffer from micro drops in the DD+ stream only with netflix. They occur randomly.

(no issues with Kodi and DD, DTS audio).

(Also, i have ROMed Minix U9 which works perfectly with Netflix 1080P , DD+ , No drops).

reading on other forums i saw other users who had the exact issue (with no solution of course).

So testing "regular" 1080p movies + DD+ streams works ok in this upgrade? can you tell if you notice such "hiccups" in the audio stream?

Thx, in advance.

Any news on this one?

Is there any way to opt-in?

I got home this week and dug up my mibox, it has no update so im guessing oreo is for beta testers only?

Is there any way to still enter the beta program, it never interested me for the nougat beta, but also i dont want to do the hassle of unlocking the bootloader to flash a rom as this is our main media box and netflix might cry about it

TheNebulousMind

About damn time! Better late than never I suppose.

dontgetaddicted

I call BS until I see people actually report receiving.

akisnet

Many people hated the new Oreo launcher and the OS was buggy as hell. Also it's more difficult to navigate to your apps. Such a waste of space. Also is ugly. You get an endless and broken list of recommendations as home screen. I pray my Mi Boxes not auto-update. If HDR worked ill be happy with what I have right now. Every Android update brakes everything and the devs make months to update.

ifixpedals

Your launcher is about to get a whole lot worse.

headegg

So this is real Android TV and not just android?

Dr__Brain

Until they fix Netflix, fuck the Mi box.
