Why would Shield tv say "Connected" under internet connection but not be able to get online?

My gen 1 16gb Shield just past few weeks began dropping internet connection once in awhile. It is on strong 5ghz signal and will say internet connected and excellent wifi signal, but no apps can connect online until I restart. Happening once a week or so. I've already factory reset it and it did not help.

Any other suggestions?

I'm using an asus rtac68u and my modem is arris tm822. When it happens, all other wifi devices are unaffected.

DNS. It has a valid local IP, so it's "connected", but DNS is failing to resolve domains.

The usual trick is to check that the shield has a valid IP address, and that you can ping it from another device.

I'd be shocked if that were the case, but that's the first thing you check.

Does the same thing happen when connected via ethernet?
Does the shield get an IPv6 address or an IPv4 address?
What DNS are you using?
Have you recently updated the firmware on your router?
Has the cable company recently updated your service?
What apps specifically are you using that aren't able to connect?

Try changing the channel for 5Ghz. E.g. set it to 48 and see if it works.
