emby or plex, though for both you ideally need a 3rd box to host and run the server. The library's and watched marks are then all managed by the backend so as long as each box is logged in as the same user you can drop and pickup your media across boxes
You can share the same database in Kodi, look forward that.
I believe you have to backup one and "restore" the other. Kodi has a ton of smart programmers but no designers and very little out of the box creatives.
Since it isn't technical, I doubt they will think of it or work on that feature. Plus since its usage is grey, signins might be a concern to some users.
