Looking for an app to make changing TV channels easy for my grandma

by Pat1487

My grandma is incapable of using technology, she always ends up stuck in some random menu when just trying to change the channel. I can't always be there to help her with it, so I need something that will make it easier for her to do it on her own.

We have a set-top box and the TV uses IRBlaster to communicate with it, I tried to get her to use voice commands (you can say "Channel 502" and it will change the channel that way but it rarely works for her and usually ends up giving her youtube results which she cant get rid of)

So ideally I'm looking for an app that will let me program 1 of the buttons on the remote to use IRBlaster to go through a list of channels. You hit the button and it goes to the first channel, hit it again and it goes the the 2nd channel on the list, and so on, until the last one where it wraps around to the first channel

I've looked around at a lot of different apps/solutions and none of them are just 1 or 2 button presses on the remote (the set-top box also doesnt have a good solution for it, the favorites button brings up a menu which she struggles to use)

So if anyone could recommend an app that allows changing set-top box channels from a small list of channels with just 1 or 2 button presses it would be very appreciated

You look into Tasker or Macrodroid?

In India xiaomi TV's have one custom skinned Android os called Patchwall. It did a great job with only one remote online content and offline content via set top box can be accessed. It would be easy. So, in US no similar alternative available for you??, just curious

What box does she have? What service? Are you talking about AndroidTV with Vue, Sling, etc? Or are you talking about getting an app for use with a cable service/box like Xfinity?

Find something she is familiar with before whatever happened that took it away from her.

That may be a basic cable subscription. Is that what she had before?

Is using an antenna an option? She would then be able to channel flip like she's use to.
