I regret purchasing a Mi box. What's the point of Android TV?

by fanboy_killer

Hi,

Sorry for coming out strong but I couldn't be more disappointed with my recent purchase. Long story short, instead of spending 500€ on a new smart TV, I decided to purchase a Mi Box instead. After a week, I can honestly say this is one of the worst purchases I've ever made because only Netflix and the chromecast features seem to work. Google Play Music (which was the main reason I bought it for) doesn't play any songs, YouTube doesn't play any videos, VLC player doesn't recognize new files in my USB thumb drive, none of the IPTV tutorials I see online work.

I know this is a dedicated community and will probably get a lot of flack for this post, but I just wanted to express my disappointment with Android TV. Instead of wasting 60€ on this, I could have purchased a second-hand Chromecast for 15€ and get the exact same functions, since Chromecast is all this thing seems to be able to do.

What's even the point of Android TV? Have things always been this bad?

I own a mi box and everything works for me (I don't use iptv) , YouTube streams perfectly , vlc also recognizes my files , and Google play music also seems to work for me.

You are doing something wrong. I have a MiBox and all the things you say dont work work on mine.

If none of that stuff works, return it and get another, because that doesn't sound right at all.

I am almost certain you should consider returning this and ask for a new one as I don't have these issues at all. YouTube and IPTV work just great, can't tell for VLC though.

I have never had that many issues, try a factory reset?

Mine works perfectly but I used to have issues with my previous wireless router, upgrading the wireless router with with stronger 5ghz fixed all my problems.

Mine played YouTube and Google play music fine right out the door. I can't get Netflix to work on mine though and I do not use IPTV.

Maybe a manufacturer defect?

What version did you get?

I also have problems with my Mi Box (international). It's pretty good for online services, but absolutely useless for UHD videos, it cant play it even from my portable HDD. While my xiaomi tv with pretty same specs runs it smoothly and nice.

Mine has gotten better over time but it has never been bad.

If updates and reset does not fix it I'd exchange because it sounds broken.

All of that should be working right out of the box. I don't know what the problem is with your setup but I would probably return it to make sure it's not just that specific box. Otherwise it could be a setup issue.

Lol, isn't mi box is the only android tv box that support youtube hdr now?
