How to put SNES ROMs inside the internal memory of the Xiaomi Mi Box

by gugahf

Hello everyone.

I have a Xiaomi Mi Box, but my controller/gamepad uses the USB drive. So I can not run the games from the external flash drive.

How can I put the ROMs I have inside the internal memory of the Xiaomi Mi Box?

Thanks for the help.

I would recommend a USB Ethernet Hub. I am using this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019GLIJ0Q/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and works great. You can keep your roms on your flash drive and have your game pad connected. Not to mentiong the ethernet port will make your connection more reliable. If you are set on moving your roms to the internal storage you could try ES Explorer and copy them over from USB.

AirDroid can quickly and easily transfer files between the devices on your network. Install it on your Mi Box and computer, plug your USB drive in to your computer and transfer your files through AirDroid to the Mi Box.

This is what I did:

  1. Copy your existing "roms" folder to a USB flash drive with a sub-folder for each console (NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA, Arcade, PS1, etc.)
  2. Install the X-plore app, plug in USB drive, copy the roms folder to your Android downloads folder
  3. Remove flash drive, you're done with it
  4. Plug in a USB controller
  5. Install RetroArch app and add a "Core" for each console: Nestopia, Gamebatte, Snes9x, Genesis EX Plus, for Arcade use FBA and MAME, etc.
  6. Go to Scan and select the roms folder you copied for each console. This needs to be done for each Core (i.e. console). It'll automatically place them on the home screen for that core.
  7. Make sure to set your TV to "game mode" if it has it. This will significantly reduce input lag.
  8. You should be done. Mi Box has plenty of storage, so I put about 1GB of roms on it which is enough for 250 of the top roms from each console, plus a couple choice PS1 games like Symphony of the Night. The end result will be all of your consoles shown on the main menu in RetroArch with all of the games listed under each console. It's a nice UI that resembles PS3 XMB and everything is contained in one app. Works extremely well.

SuperRetro16 has Play Games/GDrive support, just put your ROMs in your GDrive and it will sync your games and savedata! Or install SuperRetro16 in your phone with ROMs in Internal Storage and log-in Play Games to start sync to cloud.

I use an app called ftp server, it broadcasts your internal memory as an ftp server and you connect to it using filezilla (or other ftp browser ) in your PC/phone/other TV box to send files to there. Very handy.
