It really seems sluggish. Just buy a Mi Box, it's a little bit more expensive and will soon receive Oreo. And at least support 4K (Youtube, Netflix) and is a real Android TV, not like this box.
I think we're going to see a lot of boxes like these in the future.
When I got my m8s Pro W, I was surprised to hear about it being uncertified, but now that I've had time to use it I've definitely noted the absence of casting features. It does not have a lot of polish as well.
I agree with the reviewer's assessment - for a secondary TV, it's maybe a good option, but that's about it.
Cue the "it's not running Android TV" bronx cheers !
I strongly suspect the Firmware on all these, what are now generic AMLogic devices is coming from the same bunch of developers. Boxes are very likely also coming off the same Chinese production line as well.
The only variations seem to be in small differences in hardware specs, with the AMLogic S905W being the cheapest runt of the litter and also the slowest.
That will be the Chipset this cheap device is using if it's limited to 4K @ 30Hz
Expect to see a flood of these types of devices going forward.
tl;dw: Interesting cheap little box. Unfortunately it has some downsides like missing DRM for 4k and Chromecast not working always.
