Nexus player: signed out and now use keyboard on your mobile device

Question

Tried a Google search first, can't get any recent results.

So I signed out of all my Google devices because of something triggering 2 factor authentication. So now I'm trying to sign back into my Nexus player, and it's telling me to enter my account email and password by using the android remote app.

Ok so I open the remote app butbthe keyboard input doesn't work. So wtf! How am I supposed to input text ? I've tried turning off my phone and rebooting the Nexus player. Still no good.

Update: Issue was cured with a factory reset.

I had this same problem with my Shield recently where 2-step authentication just kept looping back to the first step. I did a system wipe to fix it.
