Mi Box SMB server

by Gobackone

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using LibreELEC, and thinking of buying a Mi Box.

One problem I'm still trying to figure out though:Today I have an automated system that copies media into a samba-shared hard-drive, connected to my streamer.I want to keep it, as playing through network via Plex or SMB has proven to be problematic. This way, the files are copied over the network automatically, and when I watch, it plays locally without any network dependency

I know that Android is usually not very SMB-friendly, shutting off ports and such. 1. Is this the case in AndroidTV? Is there maybe SMB built-in? 2. Are there apps that go around this like in the phone variant of Android ( like this one for example )? 3. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks!

tl;dr: samba server on Mi Box?

I have no answer to your question, but I have no problems streaming through network via Kodi. Have you tried enabling SMB in Windows features? I had a problem connecting MI box to my network shared folder because this feature was off by default in Win10.

You should probably set up a Plex server and just fix whatever deficiency your network has that is stopping this. Plex doesn't need much to work properly. It's going to be a hundred times better than that kludgey setup.

You will not be able to copy files (even manually) across a Network to a hard drive directly connected to a Mi Box simply due to Android OS permissions and security restrictions.

I've tried all sorts of combos, it simply does not work. IMHO, You are going to be wasting you time and money. Sort out you existing problematic networking would be a better idea.

The Mi Box and it's Android TV OS is definately inferior for networking vs using LibreELEC

Has anyone found a solution to this? I find it really tiringsome uploading something to Google drive and then to download it on the Mi Box. It is just as boring go copy apk or something else on a usb stick from my mac to the ATV box.

Is there an easy solution for this? Or is there an easy solution to use my mobile to download something straight to the box? I want to download and install kodi alpha 3 now. I can download it to my mac, then reupload to gdrive, and then find it using s file explorer on Mi Box. It takes ages!
