I have tried 2 phones and same results. The app shows the MIBOX3 on the list. once i click connect it will try to connect and then just stop and back to the main list with MIBOX3 in to. will not connect.

Only time ours ever has an issue with this app is when it's on a different WiFi than my phone happens to be on (Mi Box on 5.4 Ghz & Phone 2.4 Ghz) maybe this is your issue as well?

I did have same issue awhile ago with this exact same issue. I honestly can't remember what changed but after awhile it just decided to connect one day after not for about a year.
Mine too. But it connects when Bluetooth is on. Doesn't connect even when both TV and phone are on same wifi

Try to turn off the Mirroring in airplay setting
Couldn't do it as well.
