Did the Youtube homescreen recommendations FINALLY change?

by hosemaster

I am now seeing videos for relevant to my Youtube history being recommended on my Shield homescreen, instead of the usual makeup videos and Jimmy Fallon clips. This seems to be real recent, as it was recommending Yanny vs Laurel just two days ago. The Youtube app hasn't updated, must be a server side switch.

Is anyone else seeing this?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My girlfriend watches makeup videos and Jimmy Fallon clips.

The YouTube app under Oreo still has the same two options:

YouTube recommendations in the UK International Women's Day

I mean credit to them for recognising IWD but bit out of date now!

Not me! I am seeing completely irrelevant YouTube recommendations.

Here's what I am currently seeing on my home screen. In this order:

Do You Hear "Yanny" or "Laurel" - AsapScience
Yanny vs Laurel video: which name do you hear - Guardian News
Do you hear "Yanny" or "Laurel"? - ABC Television Stations
Film Theory: Thanks was RIGHT!! - The Film Theorists
BTS 'FAKE LOVE' Official MV - ibighit
Backstreet Boys - Don't Go Breaking My Heart - Backstreet Boys
Do You Hear "Yanny" or "Laurel" Challenge! - Rich Ferguson

I legitimately have no interest in any of these things nor do I follow any of these channels, yet it's all being recommended to me. Not to mention 4 separate videos all about the same damn thing???? Come on.
Also what the hell is an old backstreet boys song showing up for?

Sadly mine aren't adjusted to what I normally watch. Ah well.

I have really good recommendations for YouTube. Gets me started every evening after work.

I have a new recommendations page, it's just bigger and seems to be more organised with similar videos grouped together.

I never had Jimmy Fallon and other popular video recommended though it's usually pretty close to what I'd want to watch

This bugs me as well. I'm wondering if it is a YouTube privacy setting? If the recommendations were based on my viewing habits I would be delighted to see them but they aren't and it sucks

I always had my recommendations based on my profile, never add a kind of generic recommandations.

So it's not really kind of new, at least for me. I have a Philips TV.

For those of you getting non relevant YouTube recommendations: you might want to try signing into your YouTube account. If you don't sign in, it won't know what it should recommend
