I’m thinking about getting a Mi TV Box, but I wanted to know if it has something similar to a Google Play Store where you can download some apps onto there for me to watch certain channels or shows.

Better to check if the apps are available to install from the androidTV play store. Or otherwise you need to sideload them but they won't appear in the launcher without a couple of workarounds.
Get an MDZ-16-AB. It does have Google Play. There are fewer apps listed because they need to be supported by Leanback (e.g. TV interface) but I think you'll have a good experience.
Aptoide is pretty great too, I use it on my MDZ-16-AB without issue. https://en.aptoide.com/
Wait for google express 20% code then buy the mi TV box for there comes cheaper then Walmart
went from Roku streaming stick to Mi box. Love it. run Kodi 17 for a few things..but there are many apps.. Play store..etc... download the Puffin Browser for internet browsing.... but all your other stuff is there, netflx hulu, etc..
Does the Mi Box play Netflix and YouTube at 4K? Or is it at 1080p?
Don't buy any Xiaomi products. They offer NO support whatsoever. The Mi Box is still on a 2.5 year old Android 6.0 with no security updates either.
