Thinking of buying a Shield, will this work?

by SSwifty

Been considering buying a Shield since the original came out, I've had a Nexus player since launch so fairly familiar with the OS.

I currently run two windows based Plex servers, one at another location with good internet and another at my home. Presently the two synchronise content with Resillio Sync (BT Sync) and I watch things at home locally from the local server.

My thoughts are to replace the local PC with a Shield Plex server to reduce power consumption and improve the experience of browsing media on my Smart TV.

So I need a way to sync the data from a remote Windows machine to an external drive connected to a shield, I assume you can't just sideload Resillio Sync?

Anyone used syncthing to this? External drive is 6tb and average file size is probably 6gb with largest being around 30gb.

If it's a Android app then you can sideload it.
You could also just create a very low power file server with a Banana Pi M3 (it has a SATA port and gigabit Ethernet) and then share it to the ShieldTV so the PLEX server can access it.

you may expose the SMB share of the Shield and mount it on your other Plex server

I ran into the same thing. Unfortunately I never came up with a better solution than just running the Shield and another computer sharing a drive. For my needs it worked pretty well though because my downloads happen on the computer.

I think Syncthing (Almost same functionality like Btsync have) an android tv version, i have not tried on Nvidia shield , but it works good on my android phone to sync some file across my windows pc and android tablets and phones.

I have Resilio Sync sideloaded on both my mibox boxes and works like a charm You need a mouse to make it work and in my experience you can add the links using the remote only...I tried with a keyboard but some letters weren’t detected

EDIT: BTW I added Aptoide TV using puff browser, and was able to side load resilio sync without getting too technical 😊
