Walmart Massive Resupply of MiBox MDZ-16-AB or How many MiBox will fill a 40' container?

by koshergoy

Walmart has been selling MiBox for as low as $59 in the last month at all their stores. Current price nationwide is $64 with dwindling stock on hand.

Normally pricing moves to this extent can lead to conjecture.....either Walmart is closing out a product OR they are eliminating inventory in favor of a more attractive offering.

Now we can connect the dots....

Xiaomi has quietly refreshed the US MiBox to Oreo AndroidTV and created an enhanced remote to fully implement Google Assistant.

The product will maintain the same model designation and the same SKU as well as return to the original price level.

The 8 Walmart distribution centers in VA will each receive from 1 to 3 40' containers of new MiBox stock. Don't know the exact number of cartons that will fill a container but it certainly approaches a shit-ton of MiBox units.

Containers are to be dispatched from Shanghai to Long Beach shortly.

Believe it or don't.....

I've already got mine so I won't be joining you in the aisles of Walmart.

Honestly Xiaomi sucks and their lack of support for their already buggy from day one device has turned me away from the entire brand as a whole.

I have one for almost 6 months with no errors at all, sometimes seems lagging, just reboot and everything works fine again.

Official apps like Netflix n YouTube never crashed for me, Plex works better on Kodi Addon than Plex app, IPTV, Pandora... I use it every single day with no mayor problems than a reboot once a month I think.

Interesting - does this mean we're closer to general availability with regards to Oreo, or will it be later on?

did they refresh anything else other than the software and the remote? I guess not if it's the same SKU. Hopefully they at least improved their production line to reduce the number of duds.

not to mention that if they're gonna sell the same hardware for the same price, they should at leas include a LAN adapter.

So there should be an update on the "old" boxes within 2 weeks? I really hope so...

Question that you may know, is the hardware the same. It is just a new remote and Oreo? Also, is it just one new button tacked onto the remote, or did they add FF/RW buttons and such?

Since you have this in hand, can you share a picture of the unit/remote/box/and Software version info?

I'm going to choose "don't," until I actually see it with my own eyes.

Why? History and zero evidence to support the claims.

History. A year ago Xiaomi was allegedly working on Nougat. Beta testers allegedly had it. It never got further than that. Now the final Beta of Oreo has allegedly been in Beta testers' hands since late April. It was allegedly demo'd at a show. Here we are mid-June. Still no update and nary a word from Xiaomi.

No evidence of the claim. Walmart is still listing the MiBox 3 at $64 at this very moment.

So it's just a software refresh then, right?

It's still a small crime that this box is sold as a 4K player. It DOES play 4K content in every format and framerate in existence, but it does none (almost none?) of them without dropping some amount of frames over say, a 10 second period. Whether that be 4K netflix, 4K h.265 blu ray files, 4K youtube, whatever.

Maybe that changes with Oreo, but I kind of doubt it. The best performing 4K experiences I've had with this box are when I only notice a few dropped frames over a 10 second period. But a single jitter on a regular basis is enough to make me want to watch 1080p content instead and sit slightly farther back from the screen.

So, when oreo update would be released to all existing boxes :(

Max_Roc

Will it be any faster than gen 1 mi box?

A false economy just like everything else that comes with shopping at Walmart. They've built an empire on garbage shit that on the surface seems like a great deal.
