You're probably going to want something like OpenVPN.
I use Google Pixel. I use VPN app. Am familiar with openvpn on Linux. Android recognizes this and asks if you want to trust it etc. There is an image during the connection. Youd need root to script it w/o app, if you manage to install openvpn
