Question of clarification concerning USB tuners

In my research as to whether to purchase a USB tuner for my Android TV, I've run across two separate accounts of Android's added tuner support for live channels. One is that sorry was introduced in the 7.1 update, another that it was introduced in live channels v1.1. which is accurate?

FYI, neither of those tuners are supported by AndroidTV.

Only these 3 USB TV Tuners will work:

- Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q
- Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner for Xbox One
- AVerMedia AVerTV Volar Hybrid Q (H837)

Seriously, does it matter which or both if it works? Just trying to understand why it would matter. I would assume that both the OS and the app had to be updated at some point to support it.
