Looking for an optical adapter for the Shield

by JJ-KwiK

I bought a second shield for my den, but completely forgot that the Shield does not have an optical audio port. The room has an older TV and older soundbar. The TV does not have an optical out port and the soundbar does not support hdmi.

Our Shields do not have an optical audio port but they do have two USB ports that can deliver optical audio using an adapter. nVidia natively supports the Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro II USB Analog & Digital Audio Adapter, but I can't find it for sale anywhere.

Has anyone found a decent alternative?

Just a warning: With an adapter, you might get an audio/video sync issue running the TV and the sound bar on separate digital inputs. Each input will have it's own latency, though probably not much. Does your TV have an analog audio output that can run to an analog input on the soundbar? That might be a better route.

Using USB audio is 'not supported' by nvidia. That is what they said when I sent a support ticket why IR settings don't work for my receiver when it is connected by USB. ('Fixed volume' doesn't work either) So you'll be missing some features, but it works.

I've been using an SMSL usb to optical interface (it's €50 on amazon) to cast music without turning my TV on, but it started popping and crackling once a minute after an update (I thought it was YouTube being weird for a month) doesn't seem produce popping sounds on windows.

HDMI extractor as mentioned earlier is another solution.
