The hardware is ready. Hardware wise the only flaw is 1 GB of RAM.
Google is the problem. Live Channels DVR is like a lobotomized TiVo.
I am not pleased with my purchase.
I have the old DVR+ and the Stream+, I really liked the DVR+ and still using it on my TV in the basement. The Stream+ is hooked up to my TV in the living room and works pretty good, but it does feel like it was rushed out and I am waiting for updates to hopefully access features.
Current Negatives
The program guide is only 2 days ahead not 2 weeks like DVR+
The record only has record once or record series, no record series only new.
No signal strength meter
The Remote is lacking a bit. There is only one on/off button. Often the TV will remain off and the Stream+ will be on, so pressing the power button they will just switch. The remote for the DVR+ has power off and power on at the top which was nice. Also no skip button.
I have added PlutoTV channels to my line up and they work pretty good. To bad I can't record, it would be nice if future updates allowed the DVR to work on streaming services like PlutoTV and SlingTV.
Lack of SlingTV, Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix apps. Hopefully they are coming.
The DVR+ got better with each update, but since it is end of life I doubt there will be anymore updates. Hopefully the Stream+ will keep getting updates to the point it is on par with what the DVR+ had.
Wonder what the holdup with Netflix is?
From following the official thread over on AVS Forum I get the impression this thing was rushed to market before it was ready. Possibly because EchoStar ceased production of the DVR+?
Whereas the DVR+ was a pretty decent, affordable, easy-to-use OTA DVR (we like ours) to which E*/CM attempted to add streaming capability (poorly, from what I read), the Stream+ appears to be some kind of Frankenstein melding of Android TV streaming device + OTA DVR that (again, from what I've been reading) does neither particularly well. At least at this time.
