I have an Nvidia Sheild with 7.0.1 on it. In the play store I noticed there is a Google Photos app that says installed already but there is no open option. There is also no Google Photos app in my home page or apps list.
Does anyone know that that app does? Ibwas excited that Google finally came up with a photos app for AndroidTV but that doesnt seem to be the case still.
Using the Sideload Launcher you will see all the APKs installed. There are some programs in the default install that don't show up on the menu:

Not sure with Oreo, but it's only for voice, "hey Google show me pics from...."

well, you see, it technically installed on your shield,but it can be launched only with your phone via Chromecast.

I'm not home to test if I have an app but you can cast photos to it or use google home and say "hey google, show photos from hawaii on family room tv" etc
Thanks for the suggestions, I opened the app using HALauncher and it is compeletely unusable in Android TV as it wasn't designed it.
Given above and the fact that app doesn't have an icon by default, I have to assume it is used as a service for another functionality which is a shame. I would love to have an app where I can browse, do slide shows on Google Photos
If I go to Settings, then Apps, I can open it there.
In my apps section there is one called photos and video, is it the same thing ?
Classic Google , Just make a Google photos app for ATV so i can look at my pics just like on my phone
