Advice on a box

by maajkemii

Hello guys. I really need some advice on a good and affordable android TV box.

I'm planning to use it mostly for IPTV, Netflix, Youtube and Plex.

Browsing sites and looking at boxes seems pretty wild, so many choices but I have no clue which brands are good.

Look on the side bar. You only have a few choices for a legit Android TV box.

Shield TV if you want something that can actually host your Plex server, will arguably last awhile and can do 4K. If not, a Mi Box.

I have Shield for my main TV and the Mi Box will replace my aging Roku soon enough.

I’ve trekked the Mi Box twice. First one was super buggy. Bought another one since I heard they’re releases some updates. That one, my IPTV would always stutter even though I had no problem on my Fire TV. Do not buy the GooBang ABOX A4, giant piece of crap. Pretty sure they’re using a bootleg Android TV. Hulu, HBO Now, WWE would not work. Some app as would though. I’d save up for a Nvidia or buy a Fire TV.

What is your budget?

Nvidia Shield will do it for ya. I’m running everything you require minus Netflix

Find one that has a real Android TV OS otherwise u will be locked in to Netflix at standard definition (480p) n other quirks.

Before you even start - which part of the world do you live in ?

I ask because IPTV in the UK, Europe, Australiasia is 25fps.

25fps at a 60Hz refresh rate frankly looks horrible - so unless you like to continually fiddle and fart around in Android device settings to try and manually match Frame rates - I would not buy any sort of Android TV device for 25fps IPTV + Netflix + YouTube and Plex usage.

Honestly, the Mi Box served me damn well, I paid 50 euros for it on gearbest. Got the Shield now, but only because I wanted to stream my PC games in addition to ATV and it was on a good sale here (150 euros including the controller). I mean if it wasn't on sale I would have just kept playing PC games on my TV via HDMI cable. To me the Mi Box did everything you mentioned, even streaming in 4K went smoothly when coupled with an ethernet adapter. Of course the Shield is much faster, but then again I don't think it is worth the retail price compared to the Mi Box, unless you want to stream games on it. Also I really miss the optical audio output in the Mi Box, it allowed me to route the audio and video separately, so I could keep my TV off when just listening to music. I've just ordered an USB to optical adapter for the Shield just to do this. And a new HDMI cable, because the Shield didn't come with one. Pffft!

M8s pro L would be good for you. Just keep the box sideways so that hear can vent out

Don't get a MiBox. I own one. It's a piece of crap.
