Finally, don't have to sideload NordVPN into my TV.

I use PIA on my shield. I get about 400mbps on my gigabit connection.

I've been waiting for this. I've been using VyprVPN. One reason I chose this was because I didn't want to bother with sideloaded apps (which can hard to use on a TV), and they had an Android TV app, though its really just a stretched out version of their phone app. It works, but it could be nicer. I might give NordVPN a shot and see how it performs.

i got 3 years with nord, did have openvpn but the interface was for touch.

cant test this until the weekend, anyone know if it has the two probably needed features for androidtv?

  • autoconnect on startup
  • VPN for only specific apps

It's way better than before. Now you can actually see the balance between UI and UX with app suited for such device. Sideloaded app which was suited only for phones or tablets was abusive to my brain lol

Finally.

I actually opened a support ticket about this a few months ago because the normal app is unusable with a dpad remote.

Be aware that when logging in to the app it will automatically put a space after the period in your email address. It took me like 30mins to figure out why I kept getting "invalid credentials" when trying to log in. lol

From my brief tryout with it NordVPN works pretty good. My main use here is for watching netflix- so far I tried out Canada and the Netherlands and they both worked, although Canada was a little slow- the Netherlands was super fast for me (I'm in the US so I have no idea why).

I don't think that you're going to be able to watch a lot of 4k stuff with Netflix, but it should be doable for 1080p depending upon the time.

It's good for me because I have both a Sony based Android TV and a Shield so I can use it for Netflix on both.

If only there was a way to get NordVPN to work easily with my Vizio TV's smartaps... I tried setting up a wifi hotspot with my PC's wifi and Netflix on the Vizio didn't like it.

My only concern is that Netflix gets hip to NordVPN at some point down the line and figures a way to block them, then I'll be out $99.
