Mi Box - Download content for holiday

I currently use Netflix, Amazon Prime and Plex.

Next week we are off on holiday and therefore I bought a 500GB hard disk expecting to be able to offline content and watch it back when away - more than likely to have poor internet.

The AndroidTV apps seem to be built not to have offline capability

Is there anything I should look at other than VLC / Kodi?

Any good way to sync across the local network before I go?

I bought a mibox with the same expectations. But I can never seem to direct any downloads to any external storage.

I use ARCHOS player it will even download all the movie and tv show posters for any content you have downloaded along with subtitles if you need them
