I have a mibox and it is having the same issues, I tried uninstalling updates to no avail

What update are you referring to? Youtube or MiBox?
You should be running build 1901 on MiBox, which dates from April
This isn't just localized to AndroidTV. It's also a problem on other platforms (Roku).
Use SmartYoutubeTV
No problems for me. NVIDIA SHIELD. Maybe try clearing cache/data.
